Four Tips For Onboarding a New Employee Virtually
Updated: Apr 6
If you’ve recently filled a new role, it is important to make your new employee’s onboarding process as seamless as possible, especially when having to do it virtually. Here are four simple tips, which will make this as easy as possible.
1. Get Them Set Up
A new starter should feel they have everything in place to start their new role. Send any equipment they need ahead of time and check in with them to see if they need anything else. Send them tips on what makes a good home office and even link them to where they can find the best deals. Also, take your new starter through any software or processes they need to be successful in their new role.
2. Organise Team Introductions
It can be daunting starting a new role for an employee. Even more daunting if they can’t meet their new team members in person. Make sure you set up team inductions and introduce them to anyone they will work with in the future. You could even buddy them up with someone to make them feel more included. Make them feel like a valued member of the team from their first day.
3. Communicate Clearly
Starting a new role virtually can feel uncertain for an employee. Be clear with your new employee what they should be doing, what meetings they should be attending and everything else they need to know to be successful in their role.
4. Check in… Regularly
Be sure to schedule regular check-ins with your new employee. See how they are finding the onboarding process, getting to know the team and if they are enjoying their new role. Also be sure to get to know them.
You want the onboarding process to be as smooth as possible and these steps will help to create a seamless transition.
